Congratulations to GT Online student Lilly Moses who was a WA Runner Up of The Simpson Prize.
The Simpson Prize is an essay writing competition for Year 9 and 10 students that focuses on Australian military service in World War One. Lilly’s entry for the 2024 Prize focused on the different historical interpretations around the nature and significance of the ANZAC legend. Lilly spent considerable time researching this topic and wrote a very poignant entry arguing that despite many challenges, the ANZAC legend and commemoration of Anzac Day, still has widespread support across Australia.
Lilly’s consistent argument that the ANZAC legend is an integral part of Australian Identity and that there will always be a place for the commemoration of ANZAC Day was awarded as runner up for the 2024 Simpson Prize and as such Lilly participated in a study tour in Canberra travelling to key historical and commemorative sites. We are so proud of Lilly’s achievement in this prestigious competition and encourage other students to take on the challenge of writing an entry for Simpson Prize 2025.
Well done Lilly!

Congratulations to Ngaire Simmons, Imogen Froby and Mazlyn Membry who have all made it to the finals of the Premier’s Anzac Student Tour for 2024. Each of the girls wrote an essay on the Anzac spirit for their initial entry. Ngaire wrote about Pilbara local Percy Gratwick who was awarded a Victoria Cross in World War One. Imogen also wrote about a local in her essay about Elizabeth Bridget Grover, a Katanning woman who nursed soldiers from Gallipoli during WW1 while Mazlyn wrote about her grandfather, Richard Rooney, who fought in the Vietnam War. Ngaire, Imogen and Mazlyn will have their final interview on Friday 6th October from where the 10 students who will tour Singapore in April next year will be chosen.
